Lailie Bug's 1st Day of Kindergarten and 1st Loose tooth!

Today was Lailie's first day of school.  I know kind of late, but we have a teacher arriving next week so we didn't want to get too far ahead before she arrived. One of the other moms is teaching for the next two weeks until she can take over (what a blessing :).

Lailie was very excited and had a great day.  They will be going to school Monday-Thursday from 830-1130 each day.  (One of the advantages of homeschooling:)

To add to the excitement a few days ago Lailie realized she had her first loose tooth.  It still hasn't come out but she is working on it.  Seems like she is growing up fast!  Here are a few pictures of the 1st day of school.

Princess and Pirate Tea Party

Lailie decided for her 5th birthday that she wanted to have a tea party.  She also wanted to include a dress up theme for it which of course for her meant Princess!  After some thought she realized this might cause a problem for the boys coming to her party (her brother and some friends).  After many ideas we decided to invite Pirates to the tea party.

Her party was on Saturday morning, Sept 3rd and we had great weather.  Joshua, Evie and Nathan arranged and led many fun games-including "Musical teapots, Treasure Hunt, Steal the Pirate's treasure, and Pin the lips on the frog."  I made Lailie a butterfly birthday cake that with a lot of help from my friend Kristiana was decorated nicely!

Our little girl is officially 5!  Here are a few pictures from the day.

Haircuts

On Monday, I told Joshua it was time for a haircut.  Ever since a bad haircut in a barber shop our first month overseas-I cut Joshua's hair.  He generally hates it and puts it off as long as possible-I told him today was the day.  After talking about Joshua's hair, Lailie decided she wanted her hair cut and not just a trim.  She wanted it cut short-to her shoulders.  All day she kept on-"Please cut it short Mama-to my shoulders."
Well, I sat Joshua down and did his usual trim and sent him off to the shower.  Next up Lailie! I thought I would just trim it a little and she would be happy, but she insisted.  So I thought why not?  We cut about 4 inches off the back and it looks super cute.  BUT.... Why do haircuts always make them look older?  She will be 5 next week, and I am not sure that I am ready for that.
So on to Tuesday, Joshua starts talking about cutting his hair shorter.  We didn't really think he would do it, but he insisted so we got Daddy's clippers out and started.  It looks good too-really like we used to cut it when he was little.
Here is a picture of the the new haircuts!
